A royal tile is a manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, metal, or even glass, generally used for covering roofs, floors, walls, showers, …Appropriate refined clay is formed to the desired shape. It is placed in a kiln, and then fired. The typical firing temperature is around 1,000 °C, though it may be as low as 600 °C. The iron content, reacting with oxygen during firing, gives the fired body a reddish color or brown. White-colored terracotta is known as pipe clay, as such clays were later preferred for tobacco pipes.
